Dubai: A worker was fined Dh2,000 for getting drunk and attempting suicide but insisted he was only trying to get his company’s attention after not being paid his salary for four months.
"I intended to frighten my employer and attract his attention because I was miserable and in a destitute situation; I was penniless and had not received my salary for nearly four months. I did not have any intention to commit suicide," said the Indian national when he defended himself before the Dubai Misdemeanour Court.
Prosecutors charged the worker, in his 20s, with attempted suicide and consuming liquor.
